# GenLayer

> GenLayer is the adjudication layer for the agentic economy. It is a decentralized AI consensus protocol where validators powered by diverse models resolve contracts, disputes and real-world questions at machine speed.

GenLayer turns subjective, ambiguous, non-deterministic questions into verifiable on-chain outcomes. Many independent AI models each reason on their own, then reach agreement on questions that have no single deterministic answer, producing one trustworthy result the whole network can rely on, usually within ~30 minutes.

## Key concepts
- Intelligent Contracts: Python programs that read the web and interpret natural language, not just on-chain data.
- Optimistic Democracy: a random set of diverse AI validators reaches consensus; disputes escalate through appeals (5 -> 11 -> 23 ... up to ~1,000) until finality.
- GenVM: the sandboxed runtime that safely mixes deterministic code with non-deterministic LLM and web calls, logging the reasoning path.
- Greyboxing: every validator runs a different, undisclosed model, defeating prompt-injection and adversarial inputs.
- The Equivalence Principle: two answers can differ in form yet be equivalent in meaning; developers define what counts as equivalent, validators decide if outputs match.
